A better place to research Jamaica would be the message boards on Negril.com or TripAdvisor.com. These both have much more detaield info, hotel reveiws and pictures of what rooms at various hotels look like.

Also, decide if you want to stay on the cliffs or on the beach, if your there for a while maybe split your time between them

As for AI, most of the nicer AI’s are going to be pretty far away from all the actioin. RIU, Grand Lido, Hedo, Beaches, etc are all by that bay that’s pretty far away from the beaches and the rest of the hotels and bars. There’s AI’s like Legends on the beach but they are not quite as upscale if that’s what your looking for.

The downside of AI is that you feel like you don’t want to leave and try other things because you’ve already paid for all your food and drinks. Look into Couples, Idle Awhile, CoCo La Palm, etc. Most fo these are nice, have honey moon suites, are on the beach, have good security, pools, spas, and they offer free breakfast but your on your own for everything else. If you drink beer things are pretty cheap too as you can pick up a red stripe for around $1 US. Figure in what your paying for AI above cost of room and you’ll have to drink a lot of redstripes to gt yoru moey worth. Also, I havn’t done AI in Jamaica but in Mexico drinks are usually watered down and food isnt’ bad but is kind of bland and just buffet style.
